Original Painting as part of my oak framed Australian bird series Baudin's Black Cockatoo
NEW Series by Sarah
With this new series, my aim is to bring to you the opportunity of owning a Sarah Welsford Original painting at an affordable price point.
This new Original series will be of realistic acrylic paintings of Australian Animals and bird portraits.
- Created using the highest quality products, acrylic paint, satin varnished on cotton weave canvas or archival birch timber panels.
- Framed with a sustainably sourced Tasmanian oak timber frame.
Each piece will be delivered to you ready to hang, wire and brass D-hooks attached the back of the painting.
The painting is signed on the front and the reverse of the painting.
On the back of the painting will also include the date and title.
The added quality frame sets off the painting in a natural timber, suiting most decors.
This NEW painting is of a Baudin's Cockatoo (f)
These large beautiful Black Cockatoos are unfortunately critically endangered. This is due to habitat loss and lack of native food resources.
At last count, they estimate there are just over 3000 adults in the wild.
They can only be found in a very small part of Australia, South West of Western Australia.
These birds are very similar in appearance to the Carnaby's Black Cockatoo, with their main physical difference being their long pointed beak. Which is why they are also known as the long-billed Black Cockatoo. This long pointed beak is perfectly adapted for extracting seeds from eucalypt gum nuts.
They are social birds and living mostly in rain forests and feeding mainly on the seed of the naive eucalypt trees of Marri and Jarah species. They also have adapted to finding food in near by orchards due to their limited native food source.
They also return to these these trees and the same nest hollows each year. Some of these nesting hollows are in trees that are thought to be between 200 - 500 years old.
I hope you enjoy my original painting of this lovely female.
